Hello, my name is Matingas and I started Tijuana Adventure in the summer of 2012 with the dream of bridging the gap that is divided by a wall that reminiscences Berlin before 1990. The idea behind the whole ordeal is to show fellow citizens of the world how amazing the city right below the US border is. A unique clash between the 1st world and the 3rd world, Tijuana is like no other and without a guide, it is very difficult to indulge in the city. More than 300,000 people cross the border everyday, yet most of them do it for business and not pleasure. The city of Tijuana is a short drive from Los Angeles and can easily be your cheapest vacation destination.
I started visiting Tijuana in early 2009 and though I dominate the Spanish language, the city still scared and mystified me. It’s very complex in nature yet with the proper explanation of how everything works, you’ll find the beauty yourself. Before moving to Tijuana, I lived in Los Angeles for 4 years working as a paparazzo, before that I was going to college in Minnesota for music. I quit my paparazzo job in 2011 and drove through the whole United States and ended up settling in Tijuana with almost no money.
In the short span I have lived in this wondrous city (5 years), I have gotten to know a lot of it, especially the nightlife. I know a lot of the bands, venues, artists, bars, artisanal beers, hidden cafes, and more! Not only that, I also somehow became a writer for the best alt weekly magazine in San Diego (profile here). I’m always discovering new places and I try to be in the loop of all the new culinary, brew, and culture experiences in Tijuana.

I started doing tours before I even lived in Tijuana (they were real innocent though). A lot of friends were visiting me and I was taking them to places I discovered. Friends insisted I should start a website for tours and thus TJ adventure exists. It started for fun and for some extra cash, now it’s still for fun and some extra cash (wow. what a shit sentence).
Anyway, if you want a tour with me, I can accommodate any types of tour. I’ve been doing this for a while and have under 50 tours under my belt, all of them improvised. I am most comfortable with at least a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 6 (though I’ve done solo tours and groups larger than 12, I rather avoid this).
Prices are depending on the case, with a minimum of $100 per booking. Just contact me and let’s talk about it!
